Hints of Food

 

 

1. Food for the Obese
(a) Consume Freely : 

  • Beans, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, cucumber, lettuce, mushrooms, onions, pumpkin, radish, spinach, turnip, brinjal, ladies, finger, tinda and ghee a (different types of gourds).

  • Fruits (without added sugar): lemon, oranges, malta, melons, keenu (an orange like fruit), straw berries, raspberries, grape-fruit, mosammi. 

  • Tea or coffee without sugar, soda water, lemon juice, tomato juice, diabetic fruit squach, clear unthickened soup, soup made of chicken or beef cubes. 

  • Artificial sweetening agents (such as saccharine), salt and pepper, vinegar, mustard, herbs, masalas, flavourings and colourings.

(b) Avoid Consuming :

  • Sugar, gur ( jaggery) and glucose. 

  • Sweets, toffees, chocolates, chocolate biscuits, cream biscuits, and similar items.

  • Halwai sweets : jalebi, gulab jamun, rasgullas, rasmalai, burfi, peda, and balushahi.

  • Sweet dishes halwa, custard, cornflour, firni and puddings. 

  • Jams, marmalades and honey. 

  • Tinned fruits and murabbas. 

  • Dried fruits : dates, figs, apricots and sultanas (Kishmish)

  • Fruits (very sweet): mangoes and grapes. 

  • Cakes, buns and pastries. 

  • Cereals : rice, spaghetti and macaroni.

  • Breakfast cereals, porridge. 

  • Beverages such as Cocoa, Boost, Bournvita and Horlicks. 

  • Ice-creams, fresh cream, fruit cream. 

  • Condensed milk. 

  • Nuts. 

  • Salad cream, salad dressing, mayonnaise. 

  • Thickened sauces. 

  • Sweet pickles and chutneys. 

  • Thickened soups and gravies. 

  • Alcoholic drinks : beer, wines, sherry, spirits. 

  • Sweetened fruit juices, fruit squash. 

  • Cola drinks and other sweet fizzy drinks. 

  • Sausages. 

  • Butter, malai egg yolk, ghee, vegetable oil ( except the minimum amount necessary for cooking). 

  • All fried foods like parathas, samosa , and pakoras.

Cook the food any way you like - boiling, grilling, steaming or baking, but do not fry in ghee or oil

(c) All other foodstuffs not mentioned in either of the above two categories should be taken in moderation.
